An early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease can be so confronting that it raises the risk of patients taking their own life, according to a leading psychiatrist. Baby boomers are particularly vulnerable.
Brian Draper, associate professor in psychiatry at the University of NSW, said people aged 50-70 diagnosed with dementia were eight to 10 times more likely to commit suicide than the general population.
