Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)

This type of therapy revolves around personal relationships and the effects they have on individuals. Through IPT individuals will learn how their relationship can be adding to their depression and then focus on ways to deal with problems that arise from these relationship issues. Unlike other forms of therapy that concentrate on emotions, feeling or thoughts being experienced by the individual, in IPT the focus is on the relationships the individual has and its impact on the individuals mental health. IPT therapy typically takes about 20 to 24 sessions.

Behavioural Activation Therapy (BAT)

Also referred to as Behaviour Therapy (BT), Behavioural Activation is a component of cognitive behavioural therapy. This type of therapy can be used in an individual therapy session or in group therapy sessions that tend to run for sixteen weeks. Through this therapy, individuals will work with a therapist to help eradicate unwanted or maladaptive behaviour. The therapy is used in mental health conditions that involve unwanted behaviours such as phobias, obsessions, anxiety and addictions. In one of the most prominent behaviour techniques, popularly known as systematic desensitization, clients are asked to imagine anxiety-producing situations and then imagine dealing with actual feared objects or situations.

Problem-Solving Therapy

Problem-solving therapy is an in-depth therapy that helps the client rethink and rework the problems and issues they are experiencing. In the sessions with the psychologist, the clients discuss the root cause of their problems and then come up with specific ways to resolve these issues. Clients prepare a plan of action with the Psychologist and then implement it. In case the problem is not successfully resolved, they again sit with the therapist and discuss the reasons for the failure and make another plan of action. This type of therapy is highly beneficial to treating depression because it allows the individual to see the actual cause of their depression and then come up with a workable plan to cope, think through and resolve the problems they are facing.
